FRC celebrates successful implementation of Landmark Energy and Water-Saving Project
Future Rehabilitation Centre enjoys a reduction on energy and water consumption by around 30% after the fruitful completion of energy and water-saving retrofit project at the Centre’s premises through the collaboration of Masdar and First Abu Dhabi Bank.Abu Dhabi, UAE; 22nd September 2020 – Future Rehabilitation Centre (FRC) drastically reduced its electricity consumption of over a third and water bills of nearly 30 percent as a direct result of the energy and water saving project awarded to the Centre by Masdar, one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, and First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), the largest bank in the UAE.
Funds from a special co-branded, biodegradable credit card were used to finance the retrofit, which followed an extensive audit of the FRC by Masdar’s Energy Services team and contractor Smart 4 Power. A percentage of the spending on the joint credit card, launched at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2013, goes towards a dedicated Green Fund for environmental projects selected by FAB. The extensive energy conservation project covered the installation of an on-grid solar photovoltaic system providing 30 kilowatt-peak (kWp) capacity, an advanced ventilation and air-conditioning control system, various water-saving devices, special soil additives, LED lights, and thermal coatings on the school’s roof to reduce heat gain. A monitoring system has also been installed to verify the achieved savings. The launch of the Energy Conservation Project coincides with the 20th anniversary of the school, just in time for introducing a school-wide energy conservation programme in support of the UAE 2021 Vision and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Mowfaq Mustafa, Director at the Future Rehabilitation Center said, “As we anticipated, this project provides a better environment with improved air quality and visual acuity which will potentially make a positive impact on the students and staff.” He added that, “This project will bring meaningful savings on the utility bills that boost up our funding for new technology and expansion of our educational program for the students. I am extending my gratitude to Masdar and FAB for the successful completion of the project and for choosing our Centre to be the hub of this one-of-a-kind technology innovation”.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centre is currently able to host 136 children with various conditions and are undergoing different activities such as speech & language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and others.
On a statement released by Masdar, Executive Direct Yousif Al Ali said, “We are honored to be able to make a positive contribution to the incredible work of the Future Rehabilitation Centre, which is dedicated to supporting young people of determination”. In addition, Hana Al Rostamani, Group Head of Personal Banking Group at First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), said, “FAB is proud to work alongside our customers to help build a greener future for all. Simply by swiping their credit card they have made a difference to the lives of Future Rehabilitation Centre students, enabling the organization to reduce its energy consumption and direct resources where they can have the greatest impact. Initiatives like this, allied to our innovative work in areas like green bonds, are central to FAB’s goal of helping people to grow stronger through access to sustainable finance and clean technology.”
