CLM or the Competent Learner Model

Accreditation:  The Future Centre for Special Needs is the only learning institution accredited by the Tucci Learning Solutions, USA, to implement the Competent Learner Model (CLM) in the region. Ms. Vicci Tucci, founder of CLM awarded the accreditation on June 9, 2010.  This accreditation validates the integrity of the Future Centre’s programme.  It also assures the community that the Future Cetnre uses an established way to manage change through regular assessment, planning, implementing, monitoring and reassessment.  The CLM boosts student’s achievement while developing the staff’s ability to formulate, monitor and deliver best practices.

About the programme.   The Competent Learner Model is a teaching program combining the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Precision Teaching, and Direct Instruction.  The program is designed to meet the individual needs of naïve learners with a variety of learning differences and helps the learner to develop repertoires that are the core of all learning.  These repertoires provide the foundation skills to be successful with academic curriculum and the functional skills needed for adulthood.

The Seven Core Repertoires are:

  • Participator
  • Problem Solver
  • Listener
  • Observer
  • Talker
  • Reader
  • Writer

Currently 64% of the children being served in the CLM program at Future Centre have a diagnosis of autism. The implementation of this model has been initiated since June 2008 at the Future Centre.  An early intervention class was opened this school year, and three additional staff members completed their CLM Course of Study to become certified instructors during academic year 2011-2012.
